Rohnert Park
Known as the “Friendly City”, Rohnert Park is one of the first planned communities in the United States. Situated smack dab in the middle of the North Bay, Rohnert Park offers something for everyone. While originally founded as a “bedroom community”, Rohnert Park has become a thriving city and Wine Country destination unto itself.
Rohnert Park is organized into sections, designated by letters of the alphabet. With few exceptions, the names of the streets (and parks) begin with the letter of the section they are in. If you happen to live on Alma or Adrian as an example, you would be living in the “A” Section. If you happened to live on Bonnie or Baron, you would be living in the “B” Section and so on. Generally speaking, homes further down the alphabet are newer in construction.
Rohnert Park is presently in the midst of a new construction renaissance. At the heart of this building, boom is the University District, which is located between Petaluma Hill Road and Rohnert Park Expressway and situated directly across from the Green Music Center. This 260-acre project development, features 1,236 single-family homes, a 100,000-square-foot commercial Center, 60 acres of open space, and 13 public parks. Single-family residences start from the high $500K range and are presently being released.
Things to Do
Rohnert Park hosts a number of award-winning venues including The Green Music Center, Spreckels Performing Arts Center, Foxtail Golf Course, and the Graton Casino. There are also entertainment centers for all ages, such as the Rohnert Park Gymnastics Center, 16-screen movie theatre, Scandia Fun Center, and Driven Raceway for indoor cart racing. In the spring and summer, you can enjoy free live concerts at the weekly Farmer’s Market.
Rohnert Park is the home of Sonoma State University, the only state university in Sonoma County. Surrounded by Redwoods, trails, and manmade lakes, this 215-acre campus offers entry-level to post-graduate programs, as well as dorms for up to 3,100 students. There are also 3 high schools, 3 middle schools, and 6 elementary schools within the city limits.
